Warren E Harvey

Lt. Col. Warren Ellsworth Harvey, Army (Ret) died on Friday, July 9, 2010, at the age of 91. He was born July 4, 1919, in Watertown, NY, the second son of Claire Hitchcock Harvey and Dayton L. Harvey and grew up in Adams Center, NY.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Andrew Harvey; sister Thelma MacIntosh Harvey; brothers Dorman, Bruce, Lucius, Stuart and Vincent; and granddaughter, Jennifer Harvey.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, George and Nita Harvey, Pleasanton, TX, and Jeffrey and Kathi Harvey, Frisco, TX; grandsons Nathan Harvey and wife Evelyn, Frisco, TX and Johnathan Harvey, Frisco, TX; step-granddaughters Cathi Black, San Antonio, TX, Cheryl Cannon, Dallas, TX and Carla Walsh, Atlanta, GA; six great-grandchildren and very dear friend, Aurora Govea, San Antonio, TX.

He received the Silver Star for gallantry in action and the Bronze Star for Valor while commanding a light tank company of the 5th Armored Division through five campaigns from Normandy to Germany during World War II. He retired from the Army at Ft. Sam Houston in 1957 and entered Civil Service at Kelly Air Force Base the following year, retiring in 1982 with more than 44 years of service to his country. He was a charter member of the San Antonio Retired Officers Association.
