NEWTON
NEWTON, Col. Samuel Galitzen (1823 - 1874) - male b. 27 Mar 1823 d. 21 Jun 1874 in San Antonio, Texas father: Newton, Rev. Samuel(1792 - 1865) mother: McCarty, Mary Hunt(1802 - 1835) When I was a young girl in 1969-1970, my mother contacted a 2nd cousin for information regarding the above ancestor and his antecedants to use for DAR qualification. The relative produced a fraile volume which had been prepared by another (unknown to me) ancestor. I believe that the volume had been prepared in the late 1800's because while my grandmothers older siblings were listed, she herself was not included in the volume. If I remember the "family legend" correctly, the ancestor who had the volume made, used a hispanic laborer to copy the data....and he used the spanish method of writing dates along with the spanish spelling of the months of the year. The owner of the volume subsequently loaned or gave the volume to someone before she died, and the volume has not been seen by my known relatives in 20 some odd years. During the past few years, I have searched the web for references to the Newton family, with little success of direct links to recent generations of my 2nd and/or 3rd cousins. The few references I found to a known ancestor, followed other lines of his decentants, but never anything resembling a direct link to my grandmothers family. Tonight, on a whim, I used the ASK JEEVES search engin for the name Edward Cassin who was an uncle of the lady who originally owned the book. PAYDIRT!!!! I am convinced that the document I found, is a close transcription of the book that went missing so many years ago. Now I have not only the information of direct antecedants (which my mother used for her DAR application) but also information on each of the children and their children and so on. Unfortunately, the pages I found, gave no disernable link to the person who uploaded the pages. The only reference I found was "Goehring Family Data Page". So to make this a legitimate query, can anybody help me find the a contact to the owner of this webpage document, so that I can tell them of my appreciation. GShock7768@aol.com
