Lock Hill District No. 5
Lock Hill District No. 5
Trustees. — Ed Aherns, August L Halbardier, and Stephen Woller.
The Lock Hill School is 11 miles from San Antonio on the Fredricksburg Road. During the last ten years the school has made very satisfactory progress. Ten years ago one $35 teacher taught at the school for a term of six months in a poor school house, practically unfurnished. The school is now taught nine months by two teachers paid $70 and $55. New deskshave been purchased, comfortable chairs and desk for teachers, the building has been enlarged, the yard fenced and provided with graveled walks.
Last year the district school tax was increased from 10 to fifteen cents.
The most urgent needs of the school are a modern school house, a larger school ground, a well of good water, single desks in place of the double desks now used, some additional reference books and other books for the library, and some playground fixtures.
